There is no doubt that the crew, in the Blackhawk, did not see the inbound civilian jet and flew directly into it. Look closely at this video. You see the Blackhawk approaching the civilian plane from the left side of the screen.

Having been in Air Traffic Control for many years it is obvious what caused this accident.

Most commercial jetliners use standard approaches and are under Instrument Flight Rules that designate the landing phase. So, that leaves it up to other non-IFR aircraft to see and avoid another aircraft. In this case, it appears the Blackhawk crew made a mistake.

1. The idea of a military corridor for training Blackhawks that crosses the inbound path of a civilian airport is mindboggling.

2. Why did the Blackhawk crew not see the correct airplane?
